Red Bike Review Short Fiction Contest
Red Bike Press will accept Regular Submissions to its inaugural short fiction contest from August 1, 2018, through November 30, 2018. Early Bird Submissions will be accepted from July 1-31, 2018. Late Submissions will be accepted from December 1-31, 2018.
Red Bike Review Short Fiction Contest is open to anyone writing in English.
Works submitted must be original and must not have been previously published in any format, whether in print, digitally or online, including in a blog. Submissions must be written in English. If accepted, payment is for first publication rights. Copyright remains the property of the author. Writers may submit more than one story during each contest period. Simultaneous submissions accepted, but please let us know right away if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Red Bike Review seeks literary fiction which falls into any genre … or which doesn’t quite fit into any genre at all. We do not accept or consider pornography or erotica at this time.
Submissions may reflect any theme of the writer’s choosing and will not be judged based on theme.
Submissions must be between 2,000 and 5,000 words.
Each contest submission must be accompanied by the reading fee of $20. Entries which are not accompanied by the reading fee will not be considered. Please note that Red Bike Review will provide an opportunity for submissions with no reading fee at a later date.
Submissions are to be made online through our Submission Portal in Word .docx format or .pdf format during the submission period, to be announced. Submissions must be typed and double-spaced using an easy-to-read, 12-point font (consider a font like Times New Roman, Arial or Calibri).
The submission portal will begin accepting submissions at midnight Pacific time on the contest start date and will be closed at midnight Pacific time on the contest end date.
If you are unable to submit through our online portal, you may mail your submission to Red Bike Press, P.O. Box 723, San Luis Obispo, CA 93406.
Mailed submissions must meet all of the formatting requirements set forth for online submissions and must be postmarked not earlier than the first date of the Early Bird Submission Period and not later than the last date of the Late Submission Period.
In addition, mailed submissions must include a cover sheet which has all of the following information: The title of the submission; the word count; the author’s name; the author’s mailing address; the author’s telephone number; and the author’s e-mail address. We will not consider submissions which do not have this cover sheet.
Mailed submissions must be accompanied by a personal check, cashier’s check or money order for the appropriate reading fee based on the postmark date (Early Bird, Regular, Late) made payable to Red Bike Press.
Manuscripts will not be returned and we will not be held responsible for lost manuscripts or manuscripts which are submitted outside the submission period. (Purchasing tracking with your postage is highly recommended in order to confirm your precious cargo is delivered to your desired destination.)
